Deserving recipients of the Advocacy award serve as  advocates on behalf of people, issues and/or concerns that otherwise may be without passionate and effective voices.  This category is for persons whose persistence, patience and intelligence have earned them the ear of those who make and shape policies at the local, regional and/or state levels.
 
This category seeks to recognize those who have:

• Served as advocates for persons, positions or groups at some personal risk
• Earned the respect of those for whom they speak
• Earned the respect of those to whom they speak
