On Saturday, August 5, 2017, the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation’s longtime grantee, NC Coastal Federation, presented the Foundation with a 2017 Pelican Award for 35 years of sustained partnership with the Coastal Federation to protect and restore North Carolina’s coast.

Each year, Pelican Awards are given to inspiring groups and people who have dedicated their time to the North Carolina coast.

“I was honored to receive a 2017 Pelican Award on behalf of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation,” said Maurice “Mo” Green, executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. “The NC Coastal Federation continues to do incredible and important work to protect and restore our state’s coast. The Foundation is proud to support the Federation’s efforts to cultivate a resilient, healthy, vibrant coast that makes North Carolina a great place to live, work and visit.”

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation has supported the NC Coastal Federation since 1983. The Foundation first met with the Federation’s Executive Director Todd Miller in 1982, the year the organization was founded.

“The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation is a vital partner for scores of communities and nonprofit groups that all work to make North Carolina the best place possible,” said Todd Miller, executive director of the NC Coastal Federation. “We are proud to have worked so closely with the foundation for the past 35 years. Many of our accomplishments would not have been possible without the critical support the foundation provides to help support the federation’s mission and programs.”

The Federation’s annual award ceremony took place in Morehead City. Governor Roy Cooper gave the evening’s closing remarks.

The Foundation was one of ten people and organizations being recognized with a Pelican Award this year.
