Joanna Martinez

Fellow

Joanna Martinez joined the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation as a Fellow in July 2022. Born and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Joanna received a Bachelor of Arts in History from North Carolina A&T State University in Fall 2020. During her undergraduate, she completed the 2020 Public Policy and International Affairs Summer Institute. She has actively had a passion for research, service, justice, and policy. She interned with the Guilford County Register of Deeds; worked at NC A&T's Library Government Documents Department; and completed an AmeriCorps Fellowship with Newark, NJ Charter Schools. Joanna was a 2021-2022 Fulbright Grant Recipient in the state of Oaxaca in Mexico. Aside from completing the English Teaching Assistantship, she researched education policies in Mexico and took on a cultural project of learning regional dances of Oaxaca. Her previous experiences share similar values of collaboration and justice, a commitment that now brings her to the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation.
