Collaborative-Problem Solving Rarely Fund List

With rare exception, the Foundation will not make grants for activities in the following areas:

Stand-alone Research

  • Academic research for the primary purpose of publication
  • Conferences, seminars, or symposiums
  • Overhead and indirect costs for projects of colleges and universities
  • Curriculum development
  • Medical research

Types of organizations

  • 501(c)4 and 501(c)5 organizations
  • Private businesses
  • Athletic Teams
  • Private and charter K-12 schools

Capital

  • Building projects or renovations (including construction materials and labor costs)
  • Computer hardware or software purchase (where it is the principal purpose of the grant) 
  • Endowment funds 
  • Equipment or furniture purchases (where it is the principal purpose of the grant)
  • Fundraising events 
  • Land purchases
  • Payments of debts 

Purposes

  • Ongoing operating support for individual organizations not part of a collaborative initiative
  • Initiatives promoting religious education or doctrine
  • Ongoing operating expenses for schools
  • Academic Scholarships

In addition, ZSR is legally prohibited from funding voter registration. ZSR is also prohibited from giving money to organizations that support or oppose individual candidates or who work to influence election outcomes.
