Environmental Impacts Bringing home lessons learned from the Louisiana bayou to eastern North Carolina

Environment

Environment Program Officer, Hawley Truax, recently traveled to New Orleans for the annual meeting of the Environmental Grantmakers Association. A highlight of the trip was the opportunity to visit with members of the Coastal Communities Collaborative in the Louisiana bayou. This collection of native fishing communities is struggling for survival in the face of threats posed by petroleum industry infrastructure and sea level rise. By working with funders who have been active in the Gulf region, Hawley hopes to draw lessons that might be of use in supporting economically distressed, low-lying, rural communities in northeastern North Carolina who are similarly threatened by climate change.
