ZSR Provides College Students with Paid Summer Internship Opportunities Non-Profit Internship Program (NPIP) kicks off summer session of internships

Winston-Salem, NC (May 26, 2022) – This summer, 40 North Carolina college students will benefit from a paid internship with a nonprofit organization thanks to Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation’s Non-Profit Internship Program (NPIP).

The program, which was started in 2011, matches college students who are aspiring nonprofit professionals with organizations across the state. By removing barriers for talented young people, NPIP addresses inequities by helping nonprofit organizations tap into a more diverse candidate pool for the highly competitive internships.

NPIP is kicking off the summer with an opening session on May 26 convened by the North Carolina Network for Grantmakers and facilitated by Rural Forward MDC. The six funders involved for 2022 include Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC Foundation, Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, Foundation for a Healthy High Point, Reidsville Area Foundation, Weaver Foundation and the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation.

Eligible students must be: 1) enrolled full time in a four-year college or university; 2) a resident of North Carolina or an out-of-state resident attending an institution in North Carolina; and 3) meet the financial eligible qualifications for a federal Pell-grant during the academic year in which they submit the application.

Host organizations, all of which are based in North Carolina, must also meet a set of criteria to participate. Internships offer a range of exposure and skill-building opportunities in the areas of research, community outreach, public policy, communications, fundraising, and social media.

This year, more than 110 students applied for NPIP, of which 40 students were matched with an organization.
